Heart Scrimshaw on Human Skull Bone Pendant in Solid 14kt Gold

$2,500.00

Scrimshaw is the art of hand engraving or carving into bone or ivory. It was first recorded in the early 18th century, but is likely much older. Sailors on whaling vessels would use sharp knives to create the artworks on whale teeth to sell at market or give to loved ones back home.

This one-of-a-kind pendant necklace features a scrimshaw design of a realistic heart on ethically sourced human skull, set in a solid 14kt gold backless bezel. It’s surrounded by three blood-red garnets—a stone that reached peak popularity in Victorian Europe—set in an upside-down triangle, the ancient symbol for heart.

The design represents the elemental connection between mind, body, and soul and serves as a reminder to allow these three human cornerstones to ground us throughout life.
